Class LL champion Bridgeport Central was named the No. 1 team in The Courant final state boys high school basketball ratings Monday. Bridgeport Central (27-1) entered the LL finale against then-No. 1 Fairfield Prep at No. 2 in the state ratings. When the Hilltoppers trailed by 19 points late in the first half, it looked like Fairfield Prep was going to finish as the only undefeated team in the state. But Prep couldn't handle Bridgeport Central's full-court press or its relentless offense in the second half and lost 76-73. "Number 1 against 2 answered all the questions," Bridgeport Central coach Barry McLeod said. "This is certainly the best time to be No. 1 in the final Courant state ratings and we are honored by that."
